The concept of One Health recognises that human health, animal health, and the environment are deeply interconnected. Risk assessment within this framework moves beyond traditional, fragmented approaches and instead embraces a more holistic perspective. By considering how diseases, food safety, and other hazards move across species and ecosystems, it becomes possible to better anticipate and manage complex risks that would otherwise remain overlooked.
In recent years, the importance of this integrated approach has become increasingly clear. Zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and environmental degradation all illustrate how closely linked these domains are. It is estimated that around 60 percent of emerging infectious diseases are zoonotic in origin, highlighting the need for coordinated surveillance and response across sectors.
