Working Together to Anticipate the Future of Food and Feed Safety

Innovamol team has just officially started a new project with the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), working in close collaboration with Wageningen University and Ecorys. The project brings together complementary expertise from public institutions, academia, and specialised consultancy to support EFSA in anticipating future challenges linked to food and feed innovation.

This collaboration builds on a strong dialogue between EFSA and the consortium partners, and on a shared understanding of how rapidly innovation is transforming the food system. New products, technologies, and production models are emerging very quickly and this requires regulatory science to remain aligned with these developments through strong cooperation across several disciplines and organisations. From the very beginning, this project has been conceived as a collective effort, where methodological know-how, scientific depth, and regulatory insight are closely integrated.

Ecorys leads the coordination of the consortium, ensuring smooth project management and alignment with EFSA’s strategic objectives. Wageningen University contributes with its internationally recognised scientific expertise in food, feed, and agricultural innovation, grounding the work in state-of-the-art research. Innovamol plays a key role by providing expertise and tools for structured evidence generation, scientific intelligence, and data-driven approaches that translate complex innovation landscapes into blueprint insights for regulatory preparedness.

In particular within the consortium, we at Innovamol will focus in particular on identifying and screening emerging innovation domains that fall under EFSA’s remit. We will combine different techniques, such as Scoping Extensive Literature Searches (SELS), horizon scanning, and other scientific intelligence approaches, to explore the rapidly evolving innovation landscape that may shape the future of food and feed safety assessment. The coming months will also provide the consortium with the opportunity to engage with a wide community, as several public interactions are planned over the next five months, creating space for dialogue and exchange around emerging innovation areas.

We look forward to share more soon! Stay tuned for opportunities to follow and take part in this project!

At Innovamol, we are particularly proud to contribute to this project that reflects the value of partnership-driven science. Working alongside Wageningen University and Ecorys allows us to combine different perspectives and strengths, ultimately supporting EFSA’s mission to protect consumers and strengthen the EU food safety system in a context of rapid innovation.
